TUI Marathon in Majorca

Recently the TUI Marathon was held in palma for the fifth time. As usual the weather was great, sunny and hot!
Congratulations to this years winner who was the Spanish guy, Miguel Capó Soller.
More information about the Marathon you can find on Tui Marathon webpage.

As I’m not a marathon-running-type-of-guy I didn’t run but I got these photos of the Cathedral instead.

Drinks to go - Sun Beach Coctails

I recently found a new product made in Mallorca in el Corte Inglés in Palma. A business here on the Island (Fussion Drinks S.L.) has started to make the most classic drinks available in bottles so that you can enjoy them at home or wherever you want. A good alternative to Bacardi Breezer and Smirnoff Ice when you want a sweet drink..

Sun Beach Cocktails includes a line of classics such as Mojito, Cosmopolitan and Daiquiri. A bit more expensive than for example breezer, a bottle of 25 cl at € 2,50 but it is still cheaper than in a bar.

On their webpage www.sunbeachcocktails.com you can see al drinks and whats in them.

Brownies I haven't tried - yet

I was surfing the other day to find a new restaurant in Palma to try but found the place to go for dessert instead. Tarpas, which is situated near el Corte Ingles offers Tapas but seem to be experts on delicious desserts as well. With Brownies, Carrot cakes, Lemon Cakes and much more on the menu they crossed the spanish names tapas and tartas(cakes) and got the name Tarpas. I will try it out for sure, just look at the brownie below!

more information of the restaurant and their menu you'll find on their webpage http://www.tarpas.es/Address: C/ Costa I Llobera 20 Palma.

Pet's Place - a new pet store

Recently a new pet store opened in Palma - Pet’s Place.
Apparently they have a new concept where you shop like in a normal supermarket. Pick a basket when you enter and then choose food, toys and other animal-related products without having to ask the clerk. So if you have a pet of some kind visit C/ Blanquerna 27, Palma and see if this new modern pet-product-shopping style fits you.

New Champagne Bar in Palma

A new Champagne bar has brought more Champagne to the island where people otherwise mostly drinks the Spanish alternative, Cava. If you don't want to drink the Champagne as it is the bar offers a long list of champagne coctails, refular coctails, wine, beer and some tapas. A small but nice bar with nice staff and great drinks is our judgement after last weekends testing.

Well worth a visit, find the bar near Paseo Maritimo at C/ Monsenyor Palmer in Palma, near Cappuchino.

Semana Santa / Easter in Palma de Mallorca

This is how easter is celebrated in Palma de Mallorca. NO - it is not kkk! But I must say it looks a bit scary, I'm not sure yet if I will enter the streets of Palma during this fiesta...
By the look in spanish supermarkets it seems that apart from this event on the streets of Palma the spanish people also spend their easter fiesta eating a lot of candy, expecially chocolate!

Metro in Palma has no evacuation plans

For those of you who are waiting for the Metro to re-open, expect to wait a bit longer. Apparently as they are working to fix the problems from the severe flooding problem last autumn they find more problems by the way. The other day they discovered that the Metro had no valid evacuation plan, an inadequate fire detection system and the emergency exits weren’t sign posted in a good way.

So, last year they said that in April the Metro should reopen but now it seems we have to wait a bit longer.

Snowing in Mallorca, and it will stay cold

Today it has actually been snowing here in Palma de Mallorca. Not much but almost enough to make me feel as if I were back in Sweden. But mostly it’s raining and very windy and when I looked at a few different forecasts it doesn’t look like it’s going to be much warmer for the next couple of weeks. I guess that’s the price we have to pay for the terrific weather we’ve had here during February and I guess we need some rain now so the summer heat will be more bearable.

To check the weather yourself, check out this page where I’ve added several different online weather forecasts for Mallorca.

Mallorca Cycling Tour

Yesterday when I strolled down to Paseo Maritimo in Palma All traffic was closed and within a few seconds around like 100 bicyclists pedaled for their life. On a normal day this might be weird but not now at least not in Mallorca as the Mallorca Cycling Tour is being held right now. Yesterday it was in Palma and today it is in Cala Millor Followed by Puerto de Alcudia tomorrow, Inca on Wednesday the 13th and finally Magaluf on Thursday the 14th.

If you catch the spirit just go and rent a bike yourself and follow them!

Majorca weather 2007

If you were in Majorca during the autumn -07 you have surely heard many people saying that it wasn't as hot as normal, especially during August and September. Now I don't know if that is true since I have only lived here one autumn and have nothing to compare to but in an article in Majorca Daily Bulletin today they say 2007 was the Coldest year experienced since 1996.

In the same paper they also say that Gwyneth Paltrow is coming (back?) to Majorca next month to do some business. First one to see her please take a photo, I've forgotten how she looks.

By the Way...

Whatever happened to the subway in Palma? Anyone who knows, feel free to write a comment?
